William Russell Ellis, Jr., Ph.D.

Dr. Ellis is Vice-Chancellor Emeritus of the University of California at
Berkeley. Trained as a sociologist he was a distinguished Professor of
Behavioral Sciences in Architecture and an inspiration to generations of
students in the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley. He was director
of the Institute for the Study of Social Change a research center dedicated to
understanding the processes of social change and contributing to the
transformation of conditions of inequality. He received the Berkeley Citation in
1994 which celebrates extraordinary achievement in the recipient’s field coupled
with outstanding service to the Berkeley campus. Beyond his academic and
community work he is a sculptor with work to be exhibited at Smith Anderson
North. |
