The U.S. and Cuba Construction Project is a cooperative effort between US and Cuban architects, builders, and environmental professionals to build low cost, environmentally sound communities based on concepts of sustainability and community participation. Work is now proceeding on the design and construction of an Urban Micro district for approximately 20,000 people.
The Micro district is located just outside of Havana and is scheduled to begin construction in 1985. It will include schools, markets, social facilities, and necessary infrastructure such as sewage, roads, and energy systems. This work is part of a 5 year joint development program. The Cuban government has approved the project and is providing land, construction funds, design support staff, office space, and support for the U.S. members of the team while in Cuba.
